The financial and market analysis report prepared by the Sakarya Economic and Social Research Center (SESAM) with the support of the Eastern Marmara Development Agency (MARKA) presents a significant development opportunity for the regional economy by converting Sakarya's agricultural waste potential into high value-added products. According to the study, shaped by SESAM's meticulous technical and financial analyses, it is estimated that the processing of approximately 480,000 tons of corn, hazelnut, and wheat waste generated annually in the province through upcycling methods will create an economic value of 850 million TL per year. This process will enable the production of many strategic raw materials needed by industry, ranging from bioplastics to nanocellulose, activated carbon to pectin and biofuel. Fully compliant with the European Green Deal, this circular economy-based model aims to minimize the environmental risks of uncontrolled waste while opening a new source of income for farmers, positioning Sakarya as Turkey's leading regional center for green technology and sustainable industry.
