On the Road to Sustainable Development: Sakarya and the Green Deal Panel Held

Sakarya University, coordinated by the Sakarya Center for Economic and Social Research (SESAM), organized a significant event in collaboration with MÜSİAD Sakarya and SATSO. Held online on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the panel brought together numerous experts from the worlds of industry and finance to discuss Sakarya's green transformation and sustainable development strategies.
The first session of the panel was titled "Green Adaptation Roadmap for Sakarya Industry." Moderated by SESAM Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümmügülsüm Zor, the session proceeded with SATSO Green Deal Commission Chair Prof. Dr. Ömer Hulusi Dede explaining the role of chambers of industry in the transformation process. CASEM Founding Partner Semih Çalışkan shared valuable insights into the sustainability roadmap development processes for industrial organizations. This session focused on the steps required for Sakarya's industry to comply with the European Green Deal.

The second session continued with the theme of "Green Finance and Innovative Industrial Approaches." Moderated by GEN Turkey Director Hasan Basri Cihan, this session featured prominent figures from the finance and auditing worlds. Dr. Emre Eren Korkmaz, Director of the Technology and Development Center at Oxford University, discussed sustainability trends in global trade and the reporting of climate change impacts. Dr. Hasan Özçelik, President of the Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority, presented a presentation covering the sustainability reporting obligations that will become mandatory for companies. On the financing side, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Mete Tepegöz, Chairman and CEO of Vakıfbank Austria, provided information on green loan policies and financing sources. Finally, Oktay Dönmez, Daikin Turkey Maintenance Manager, shared carbon reduction in industrial production and practical sustainability practices with the participants. The successful panel discussion provided important insights that will guide Sakarya's transition to a green and sustainable economic future. Sakarya University SESAM extends its gratitude to its partner institutions, MÜSİAD Sakarya and SATSO, as well as to all the speakers who shared their valuable knowledge and experience.
